Dear disgruntled reader:
I have been sponsored by a money management firm based in Quebec to become an Associate Advising Representative (pending registration). (For those of you who understand what an AAR is, please note that when Peter Hodson, former Chairman of Sprott Asset Management, re-entered the industry, he started with that title as well. He is much more senior. Still, the humiliation is total. I will explain this point shortly in another post.)
My main purpose in telling you this is to address the perceived conflict between writing about the money management industry, while also working in it. As for the interests of the subjects of my posts, I have always disclosed my birth name when contacting people I cover. I will also now identify my new affiliation.
I am not currently being paid a salary by the sponsoring firm, nor do I currently own any equity stake. The main foreseeable compensation is if I build an advisory practice within this firm.
While I am on this topic, I should also clarify that since 2014, I have not gotten any compensation from a Canadian money manager. (Excepting of course any membership subscription fees I get from this blog, that may come from money managers.) I have also occasionally received nominal hospitality (meals, coffee) when meeting people I cover.
I hope you find this development as entertaining as anything I’ve written — and a harbinger of even more entertaining things to come.
